SBS- Fort Mifflin

Fort Mifflin Interview:
Small Business Saturday

During this week’s Small Business Saturday episode, we spoke with Beth Beatty, Executive Director at Fort Mifflin. Fort Mifflin is a National Historic Landmark located near the Philadelphia Airport. The Fort has been up and running since its inception in 1775. It was decommissioned in 1954 by the federal government and later named a National Historic Landmark in 1970. With a history so interesting and rich, Fort Mifflin is considered one of the most haunted spots in the country. The Fort was investigated by the Ghost Hunters and confirmed to be one of the most haunted locations they have ever visited.

Fort Mifflin was built by the British in the 1770s. The Americans took over the Fort in 1775, just in time for the American Revolution. Fort Mifflin’s major battle took place in 1777. During the battle, there were about 200-250 soldiers stationed at Fort Mifflin to fight against incoming British ships. The battle lasted for 5 long weeks ending with Fort retreating but never surrendering.

This historic site has pieces of Fort Mifflin’s history available for all visitors to view such as cannons, cannonballs, medicines, and art pieces. During the shoot, we even had the chance to shoot a field artillery piece, similar to what they would have called a “grasshopper” during the time of the American Revolution!

Fort Mifflin has a full calendar of events year-round. However, the spookiest time to visit the Fort is during the Halloween season. They take an authentic approach, using the whole month of October to highlight 100% true ghost stories of Fort Mifflin. At the Fort, they like to explore the intersection between history and mystery and welcome everyone to join them. Plan your visit by visiting their website online. Some upcoming Halloween events at the Fort include Candlelight Ghost tours, offered on October 31st at 7 PM and A Mud Island Halloween, offered on October 26th at 5 PM.

You can find our friends at Fort Mifflin online on their website. You can also connect with them through their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
