Small Business Saturday:
Philadelphia Independents

This week’s Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Ashley Peel, co-founder of Philadelphia Independents in Old City, Philadelphia. Philadelphia Independents has been operating out of in the historic Old City section of Philadelphia for 4 years. The shop specializes in all things Philly, with products ranging from baby onesies to adult coloring books. The shop may be small, but their selection of products and dedication to helping Philly-based artists is unmatched. It is the perfect place to find a present or find some Philadelphia house decor.

The idea for Philadelphia Independents grew from Ashley’s own passion for creating. Her jewelry line, Indican, inspired Ashley and co-founders Jennifer and Tiffica to branch out to create a year round shop to highlight the work of Philly artists. The store puts the work of the markers at the forefront. They sell the work of all different kinds of artists, ranging from ceramicists and jewlers to t-shirt markers. Philadelphia Independents is proud to be the only store in the city to carry exclusively handmade in Philadelphia work. Right now, the store represents about 60 different artists and makers from the area.

Philadelphia Independents is sure to have something in store for everyone’s taste. Currently, their most popular items include a Philadelphia teatowel crafted by local artist Jean Mason and a beanie Eagles hat from South Philly’s very own South Fellini. Philadelphia Independents truly believes in celebrating Philly pride all year round. Can’t make it down to their location? No worries!
