Small Business Saturday Philadelphia: La’Vanter
During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Jamil Scurry, founder and CEO of La’Vanter.
La’Vanter is an up-and-coming women’s fashion boutique located in North Philadelphia. All of the clothing offered in the store is handpicked by Jamil himself, ensuring that there is a unique item available for every girl, no matter what style or shape.
The clothing items sold at La’Vanter rotate quarterly, so there is always something new being offered and it’s always on trend. The La’Vanter team also hunts high and low for nifty and fashion-forward thrift finds, which they make available for sale as well, making sure everything in their shop is 100% unique.
The store’s name, La’Vanter, comes from a book Jamil discovered through Oprah’s book club called “The Alchemist.” According to the book, La’Vanter is the name of a warm wind that blows through the Southern part of France. To Jamil, this definition perfectly encompassed what he wanted his store to be about – freedom.
By day, Jamil is a police officer, but his heart and soul lies in the fashion industry. One day, he hopes to expand his store to men’s fashion and even create a fashion line himself (we can’t wait to see what he does!)
The storefront was purchased and completely revamped by Jamil and the La’Vanter team. The store’s design has clear influences from runway fashion boutiques in France, London, New York, and more. The shop has a beautiful exposed brick wall that acts as the perfect accent to the beautiful clothing in the store.
Their full clothing selection is displayed tastefully on hanging racks so that you can easily see the clothing pieces and map out how you would style each of them. Their clothing is also offered in many different sizes.
The store has a second floor, that is still being renovated, where the La’Vanter team hopes to expand its offerings to a men’s fashion line.
You can find our friends at La’Vanter online on Facebook and Instagram. Their storefront is located at 1334 W Venago Street in Philadelphia. Stop in anytime to browse their unique selection and find your next favorite fashion piece!
